Pastor Falamao Samate, Pastor LyChai Yang and the entire congregation welcomes you to Memorial United Methodist Church, Clovis
Welcome Home!
Members of Memorial United Methodist Church have said that coming to the church was like coming home. This spirit of family in Christ began in October, 1893, when the church was founded in Clovis by the pioneer Academy Church. Memorial continues to pioneer the future with our contemporary and relevant faith serving the Clovis/Fresno area.
Our church is a mix of generations, cultures, family configurations, including families with children, drawn together in a warm and lively Spirit. Some of us grew up Methodist, but many did not, although we are drawn together by the emphasis in United Methodism of a heartfelt spirituality and loving service to our community. We offer opportunities for spiritual growth, education, fellowship, thought provoking discussions, and worship.
We have had an outreach to the Hmong community since 1999 beginning with a Hmong community garden established by Memorial UMC with the help of FIRM (Fresno Interdenominational Ministries)
We currently have Hmong language worship and education in coordination with our English language community.
Mission Statement:
To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
We Show and Tell Jesus’ Love Everywhere
We remember Christ’s teaching by:
- Being a nurturing, supportive community
- Proclaiming the Good News of God’s Love
- Serving the Needy
- Receiving God’s grace and forgiveness
We show and tell about God’s love and acceptance by:
- Honoring God’s gifts of reason and experience
- Respecting scripture and traditions of the church
- Seeking God’s guidance by discovering and using our gifts for ministry
- Serving the needy in our neighborhoods and throughout the world
- Loving and respecting all people as each is made in God’s image
Our Vision:
To empower servant leadership.
We believe in lay owned and operated ministry based on the gifts, heart bursts/ heartbreaks and call to ministry of every disciple.
Source of Our Beliefs:
United Methodists are centered on what is commonly known as the Wesleyan Quadrilateral:
- Scripture – the Holy Bible (Old and New Testaments)
- Tradition – the two millennial history of the Christian Church
- Reason – rational thinking and sensible interpretation
- Experience – a Christian’s personal and communal journey in Christ

Memorial’s Leadership
Pastors: Falamao Samate & LyChai Yang
Lay Leader: Ruby Bago
Secretary: Annamarie Huggins
Memorial is largely a lay led church with teams in charge of the various programs (finances, worship, education, etc.) The pastors participate in all teams to provide guidance.
Finances:
Like any organization, Memorial needs income to cover expenses in performing it’s missions and ministry. Most of Memorial’s income is from members pledging to donate an amount of their choosing per year. Other income is from non-pledged giving, fundraisers, and grants. Our missions and ministry are a priority for the use of the income.
Some History:
The founding of Methodism in the USA (video)
Memorial UMC was founded from the Academy Church in 1893 and first located in Clovis on 5th and Woodward streets. In 1963, the current building was constructed on Pollasky and Scott streets in Clovis.

Worship Ministries
It takes a lot of people to create and conduct meaningful worship services every Sunday. You can find many rewarding ministries within worship to be of service to God and the people.
Child Care
Child care is available during worship services and Sunday School hour. Care for infants through age 2 is available in the Quiet Room at the north side of the Sanctuary. Care for children ages 2 through 5 is available in the Fellowship Hall Nursery Room.
Music Ministries
Worship by playing and singing traditional and modern Christian music. Anyone who plays the Guitar, bass, or Drums are welcome. Vocalists also are welcome. Rehearsals are Fridays at 6 pm.
Worship Planning Ministry
Details of all worship services are planned well in advance. The service planning teams meet once a month. We welcome your input to the worship planning team ether by message or your attendance.
Other Worship Support Ministries
Much other support is needed for worship services. Ushers, Sound Technicians, PowerPoint designers, Video projection operators, Camera operators, Greeters, Communion Stewards, Scripture Readers, and Worship Leaders are regularly needed for worship.
These are all are ministries to the church. Contact Pastor or the church office if you can minister in any of these ways.

Your children are important to us!
Memorial takes extreme measures to assure the safety of your children at Worship, Sunday School, and other church events. Everyone who works with the children at Memorial—including volunteers on mission and field trips—are screened and educated about abuse prevention and boundary awareness via https://safegatherings.com
The Quiet room (baby nursery) is sanitized after each use and the bedding and toys are cleaned each week after they are used. We sanitize the tables, counters, chairs and the toddler bathroom before and after we use the room. Also the toddler toys are sanitized. The room is kept locked when not in use to maintain cleanliness.
We ask that if you are sick, either you do not come or properly wear a mask.
