A Framework for Understanding
Where did the Bible come from?
Have you ever wondered why there are so many translations of the Bible and why the words vary greatly from one translations to another? The work of translating is extremely difficult. Here are some of the challenges faced:
• The original Hebrew writing did not have any vowels.
• In order to make the best use of the available parchment, when writing scribes would not leave margins or space between words or columns
• Punctuation marks were not present
• Sentence structure between languages vary
Here is a challenge for you, just for fun! Below are two paragraphs in English. In the first paragraph there is one column, and the vowels remain in, but the spacing and punctuation have been removed. In the second paragraph, the vowels have also been removed. See if you can discern the meaning of the paragraphs
